South Pasadena

A historic small town that’s perfect for raising a family.

Welcome to South Pasadena

South Pasadena is a city in Los Angeles located in the West San Gabriel Valley. Founded by Midwesterners in the late 1800s, many classic craftsman homes are still standing alongside the old-school storefronts. Meridian and Mission's intersection is home to weekly farmers' markets and the historical Meridian Iron Works building, which now functions as a museum. South Pasadena might be small in size, but it's brimming with cultural and historical delights.

South Pasadena is a safe, historic small town and an excellent place to raise a family. Its prime location allows locals to enjoy year-round sunshine and pleasant sea breezes. Residents enjoy the delightful oasis secluded from the bustling downtown of Los Angeles, though it is only ten miles away, which is convenient to commuters. Part of South Pasadena’s allure is its glorious scenic landscapes and historic buildings. The city fosters a tight-knit community that regularly sponsors family-oriented festivities and events.

People & Lifestyle

South Pasadena isn't known for its nightlife, but various unique eateries dot the cozy streets, ranging from old-fashioned barbecue to upscale French cuisine. There are also several cheery cafes, music venues, and renowned bars. Locals favor shopping at the South Pasadena Farmers' Market, open every Thursday, and Old Town Pasadena is a popular shopping center with numerous restaurants, right around the corner.

Besides entertainment and shopping options, South Pasadena is home to multiple parks with amenities, including playgrounds, picnic areas, and hiking trails. For the most part, South Pasadena is a family town. The suburban area has cultivated a close-knit community, and it's a safe place to live. Most inhabitants move there to settle down and enjoy their pick of the craftsman and modern homes. There are a few apartment buildings for renters, as the price of living with the South Pasadena zip code can be quite expensive.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

For genuine Southern cuisine and hospitality, dine at Gus's BBQ. The BBQ joint has been open since 1946. This family-friend joint is famous for slow-cooking their meats over pecan logs until they're juicy and tender. Situated on the historic Route 66, Gus's BBQ pays tribute to that delicious, homestyle cooking made famous by the South and Midwest. If you choose to dine on one of their trademark dishes, make sure to complement your meal with whiskey.

Fiore Market Cafe
doubles as a great hangout spot with weekly live jazz and a cute café serving sandwiches and salads. Sit outside in front of their garden while relaxing and connecting with other patrons. Their sandwiches are made with fresh bread, baked daily, and the desserts are also homemade! Try one of their vegan chocolate cupcakes. You won't regret it.

Neighborhood haunt Mike and Anne's is a busy modern indoor and outdoor restaurant with New American classics that began in 2007. Initially, they only served dinner, but as their business grew, they began opening their doors for breakfast and lunch. To this day, they continue adding new favorites to their growing and changing menu.

Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain
is a South Pasadena landmark with an authentic corner soda fountain and an old-fashioned menu of sandwiches and ice cream desserts. Since 1915, this charming establishment has become a beloved attraction on Route 66.
